Acadia School - Room 19

Today we read story to begin our day. We are reading "Wonder". After that we did book club. We worked on our story maps. We finished up answering some questions about Alberta's history in social studies. After recess we had an assembly. The Grade 5 and 6s put on an awesome celebration of learning. Reminders: - Field trip forms are due ASAP. our field trip is on Tuesday. If you are able to volunteer, we still need a few more volunteers!

We did a sit spot today. A sit spot is when you go outside and find a comfortable spot to just draw or sketch (EY). We did book club today (SA). And we also did free-choice writing today (SA). We did math today. We did division questions (EK). This afternoon we did attendance. After we did attendance we did mindfulness and then after that we did social studies. In social studies we were learning about 17 questions from the textbook. Then we did blog.  (SA) In social studies we were learning about the fur trade!  (PM) Special Reminders: - This evening is movie night. The movie starts at 6:00pm. - In gym next week we are continuing gymnastics. If you have long hair, you will need to bring hair elastics.

In gym we started gymnastics (BP). We had book club today (AR). In social studies we learned about story robes and created stories using symbols (AR). In math we started division! (EG) Special Reminders: - Pink Shirt Day is on Wednesday. We have a Friendship dance that afternoon. - Family Movie Night is on Thursday. - Popcorn sales on Wednesday - Library Day tomorrow

Today we had our circle of courage assembly (RO). We also had another assembly. Someone from the Calgary Stampeders came to talk about online bullying. We began making story maps during book club today. Each Friday we will add more to our maps. (TB1) We had 4 amazing people share awesome things for Show and Share. We are making a classroom symbol. We continued working on this today. Family Movie Night is Spies in Disguise on February 27th at 6:00pm. Tickets are $2

Today we continued with our cookie math problem from yesterday. We found that there are lots of different ways that you can split up 36 cookies. After recess we had book club. We also read a story called "Secret of the Dance" and talked about First Nations people. We learned about the Indian Act and how it prevented First Nations people from having ceremonies, doing their dances, or having family dinners. This afternoon we did a survey with Ms. Brown. After that we read another story called "Thunder Boy Jr.". We talked about how First Nations people showed their respect for the land in lots of different ways. One of the ways they did this was through their names! We also talked about how they choose something (like a bear) to represent their clan (family). We all drew a picture of something from nature that represents our classroom and we are creating a classroom clan symbol.

We had buddies today. We did friendship art (KP). We got both our math and science test back today. These were sent home today too. Please take a look at them (CO). In math we did a word problem about cookies (DM). We had book club today (FH). We started doing our weekly jobs during book club today too. Spies in disguise picture day (SH)

In social studies we read a book called "Shi-shi-etko" (AR). We made a visual journal page called "My Memory Bag" where we drew things that were really important to us and a part of our culture and made connections to nature (RR). In math we checked over our tests. We had a chance to make some corrections (EY). During book club we now have different jobs to do. We read a bit each day and then complete one of our jobs (SA). In gym we played a new game called 4 Corners (TB1).
