Suggested Learning Activities

Hello Room 19 Families!

I hope you are all doing well! Our hallways are empty and we are all missing our students greatly.

We hope you have been keeping busy- we sure have been here at the school!

We continue to await further direction from Alberta Education and the CBE as to what our next steps are for a distance-learning model.

The Grade 4 team has gathered a list of suggested learning activities that families can be currently doing though. Please remember that these activities are optional and not mandatory.

Reading:

Writing:
  • Email your teachers or principal (Our emails are all listed on the Acadia School website)
  • Write instructions for making/doing a task (For example: write instructions for turning on your Xbox or making Kraft Dinner)
  • Make a grocery list (Can look through a flyer for different prices or come up with our own list of prices - Connection with math by adding up the total prices or making a budget and deciding what can be purchased)
  • Write a story
  • Make a schedule for the day
  • Write a play or script and perform it for your family
  • Create a comic strip or comic book
  • Write a poem
  • Keep a diary/journal

Math:
  • Multiplication or Addition/Subtraction War with cards
  • Race to 1000/Race to 0
  • Card Games
  • Board Games
  • Continue practicing 2- and 3- digit multiplication
  • Continue practicing 1- and 2- digit division
  • Continue practicing 3- and 4- digit addition and subtraction
  • Flashcard or memory games (to practice basic facts)
  • Create a test for your parents with an answer key :)
Science:
  • Use your knowledge of simple machines (wheels and axles, pulleys, and levers) to create a complex machine that does something!
  • Create another shadow city
  • Inform your families about properly managing their waste. Create some recycling, compost, and garbage posters for your house!
  • Create an optical device (Such as a periscope, telescope or a kaleidoscope)

Social Studies:

  • Sit Spot- Sit Spot is a First Nations connection to our learning. You begin by finding a space that is just yours. Once you have found that, your goal is to just sketch something from nature! As it is cold outside, perhaps you could simply imagine something in nature. Or, take a peek outside your window!
  • Plan your dream travel trip through the different regions of Alberta

Other Activities:

  • Draw your home
  • Design your dream home
  • Create a book of colouring pages
  • Create a Google Slideshow
  • Do some baking or cooking
  • Create an exercise routine for you and your family members :)
  • Create a dance routine

** Send Ms. MacDonald photos of your creations if you would like!
